The complete 2026 guide to small women's ring sizes โ UK sizes A to K explained, circumference and diameter in mm, US/EU conversions, how to measure small fingers accurately and expert tips for finding rings in petite sizes.
Each ring is drawn proportionally to its actual inner diameter. The gold ring (K) marks the women's national average โ sizes below K are considered small for adult UK women.
Bar length proportional to inner circumference. Measure your finger circumference and match to a bar. Gold = women's average (UK K, 49.9mm).

In the UK, ring sizes below the women's average of K (49.9mm circumference / 15.9mm diameter) are generally considered "small." The small range spans UK A through J (37.5โ48.4mm circumference / 11.9โ15.4mm diameter), covering everything from children's rings and very petite adult fingers to slightly below-average adult women's sizes. Approximately 15โ20% of UK adult women wear a size below K. The most commonly requested small sizes from UK jewellers are H, I, J and K โ these are widely stocked. Sizes E and below are typically special-order or custom-made by most UK jewellers.

For small or slim fingers, the paper strip method gives the most accurate results because it conforms precisely to the finger's shape. Cut a strip of paper 0.5 cm wide and 8 cm long (shorter than standard to avoid bulk on small fingers). Wrap snugly around the base of the ring finger โ it should be snug enough to feel the finger beneath it but not tight enough to leave a mark. Mark the exact overlap point with a fine pen and measure the strip length from end to mark in mm.
For very small or petite fingers (likely UK AโF range), a standard paper strip can add unwanted bulk to the measurement. Use dental floss, thin cotton thread or sewing thread instead โ these have negligible thickness and give a more accurate circumference measurement on very slim fingers. Wrap around the finger, mark with a pen, lay flat and measure in mm against a ruler. Thread adds essentially 0mm of thickness compared to paper which adds 0.1โ0.3mm.
Small fingers are more sensitive to temperature-related size changes than larger fingers, as a percentage of their total circumference. A small finger at UK F (43.5mm circumference) varies by 0.5โ1.0mm depending on temperature โ this is nearly a full ring size at the small end of the scale. Always measure in the afternoon or evening in a comfortably warm room. If your measurement falls between two sizes, order the larger of the two and use a ring adjuster if needed.
Women with small ring fingers often have proportionally prominent knuckles โ the knuckle-to-base difference can be significant even on petite hands. Measure your knuckle circumference separately by wrapping the strip around the widest part of the knuckle joint while the finger is bent slightly (about 90ยฐ). If the knuckle reading gives a larger UK size than the base reading, choose a size that passes over the knuckle comfortably and use a ring adjuster to keep it snug at the base.
If you own a ring that fits your ring finger perfectly, measure its inner diameter using a mm ruler or digital calipers โ this is the most reliable confirmation of your size. Place the ring flat on a table, insert a ruler across the inside of the ring and measure the distance between the inner edges in mm. Look up this diameter in the Diam. MM column of the chart above or enter it in the calculator to confirm your UK size. A difference of even 0.3mm matters at the small end of the scale.
