Your knuckle is critical โ for large sizes, the gap between knuckle circumference and finger base circumference is often larger. Measure both; the ring must pass over the knuckle, then sit comfortably at the base.
Wide bands need significantly more size โ for large hands, a 10 mm signet ring may need 2 full UK sizes added on top of your base measurement. Always test in store when possible.
Avoid tungsten if your size might change โ tungsten cannot be resized at all. If you're young, building muscle, or your weight fluctuates, choose gold or silver which can be adjusted easily.
Try before you buy if possible โ for sizes Z and above, many online sellers offer a free ring sizer kit by post. Take 5โ10 minutes to try both the Z and Z+1 before committing to an expensive purchase.
Use calipers, not tape โ for large hand measurements, even 1 mm of error equals a full UK size difference. Digital calipers (ยฃ8โยฃ15) give ยฑ0.01 mm accuracy and are the most reliable home tool for large sizes.
Measure 3 times on 3 different days โ fluid retention from exercise, salt, or alcohol can temporarily add 1โ2 full UK sizes in larger-handed men. Use the average, not the largest reading.
