7 major ring sizing systems are used worldwide. Colour-coded by region โ click the legend to learn each system.
Used in UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ and many Commonwealth nations. Letter-based: AโZ+9.
Used in USA, Canada and Mexico. Number-based in 0.032" increments. Half sizes common.
Used in Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Russia, Poland. Size = inner circumference in mm.
Also called Swiss/Italian/Spanish system. Size = circumference(mm) โ 40. Same formula all four countries.
JIS S 4700:2022. Based on inner diameter in 0.33mm steps from 13mm. Used in Japan, China, Korea.
Used in India. Diameter-based in ~0.3โ0.4mm increments from 13mm. Range 1โ40. No ISO standard.
NBR 16058. T = (Dรฯ)โ40 where D = inner diameter mm. Closely mirrors Japanese and French systems.
There are 7 major ring sizing systems used worldwide, governed by international standards including ISO 8653:2016 (EU/Germany/Russia), JIS S 4700:2022 (Japan/China/Korea), BS EN 28653:1993 (UK/Australia) and NBR 16058 (Brazil). The universal reference is inner diameter in millimetres โ measure this once and convert to any country's system instantly. The UK uses letters (AโZ+9), the US uses numbers (0โ17), the EU uses the raw circumference in mm, France/Switzerland/Italy/Spain use circumference minus 40, while Japan, India, and Brazil all use number systems based on inner diameter.

Based on inner circumference. Size A = 37.5mm. Each full letter = ~1.25mm increment. Updated by BS EN 28653:1993.
Based on inner diameter in inches. Each size = 0.032 inches. Half sizes common. Range 0โ17. No ISO standard.
The simplest system. Ring size equals inner circumference in mm. Range 41โ76. 1mm per size. Russia uses this directly.
Based on ISO circumference minus 40. EU size 50 = French size 10. All four countries use the identical formula.
Each size adds 0.33mm to inner diameter. Size 13 = 17mm. Used in Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan.
Non-linear diameter-based system. Range 1โ40. No official ISO standard. Closest to Japanese system but with slight offsets.
Where D = inner diameter in mm. Official formula matches ISO circumference minus 40. Practically identical to French system.
